Stripy Story

In the beginning

stripykat by Katie Brown was created to supply a grateful world with fun, original and unique handmade bags, scarves, phone & mp3 holders and other accessories. Each item is designed and lovingly made by me - Katie, the accessory mad girl from Scotland.

About Katie

I have loved design, handbags and accessories for a very long time. My training started at the Scottish College of Textiles in Galashiels, where I studied for (and got!) a degree in Textile and Fashion Design. Since then I built on my design background by my work for Jenners – the world's oldest department store as well as following my nose and travelling the country as a perfume buyer.

From using my nose for work, I continued using my art and design training and became a director for an independent interior design company in Edinburgh. This allowed me to again indulge my passion for fabric and design, while helping to run all aspects of the business. My team and I spent someone else's money (be it wisely) on all things lovely for a wide range of commercial show homes and individual's homes. Designing and shopping for a living, it's every girl's dream!

But meanwhile while all this was going on, stripykat was bubbling away behind the scenes.

Stripykat is born

You know, it's a fact of life that you can NEVER have too many handbags and accessories! I think I am probably the handbag equivalent of Imelda Marcos. I just love visiting design shops and boutiques to find weird and wonderful pieces that no one else stocks.

My philosophy is that a bag and accessory don't just finish off an outfit - they makes it! A little black dress, business suit or jeans are pretty dull without a sparkly scarf or colourful bag. It's a statement and you can get away with so much more with the fabric you use and how the accessory is designed.

So stripykat was created to provide you with bags and accessories that are completely one of a kind. I aim to create something different, something unique and something singularly special in it's design. Failing that, I will create something you can carry your sandwiches around in in style!
